The war closed after two years of fighting, andon Febniarj 13, 1815, the treaty of peace wassigned at Ghent. On the 4th of March, 1817, hissecond term of office expired, and he resigned thePresidential chair to his friend, James retired to his beautiful home at Montpelier, andthere passed the remainder of his days.
