Los Angeles, Cal.—Theodore Payne, formerly manager of the Germain Seed Company, has opened up a general seed house and is now making a European trip. A FEW cases of 5-7 Harrisii lily bulbs arrived at New York July 1, but the best growers say florists should be patient and not urge the digging of stock before fully ripe. Minnesota potato growers report thirty-eight days without rain, yet growth of the tops is fair and with rain soon a fair crop may result. Offers of fifty cents per bushel are now made for fall delivery. Catalogue men east, who in the past have supplied a heavy western mail trade, admit that the growth of their lists of customers does not keep pace with the growth of the country, indicating that buyers are supplied more and more locally.
