A portrait of Owain Glyndŵr, aka Owen Glendower,(1359-1415), Welsh ruler and the last native Welshman to hold the title Prince of Wales but to many, viewed as an unofficial king. He instigated a long-running but ultimately unsuccessful revolt against English rule of Wales. In 1400, Glynd rŵinstigated a successful revolt against King Henry IV AND rapidly gained control of large areas of Wales. The uprising was eventually suppressed by the English in 1409 and Glyndŵr was driven from his strongholds avoiding capture, despite the large rewards offered, he was never betrayed to the English.
