The Von Trapp family gained fame after World War II because of their escape from Nazis in Austria. They became a famed singing group in the US after the war and settled in Stowe Vermont on a farm. They established a famed and popular vacation lodge at the farm and have developed one of the premier cross country (Nordic) ski areas in North America.
