NORTH BERWICK, SCOTLAND, UK - 20 June - 2022 - Same same but different…Bass Rock off the coast of East Lothian looks different due to bird flu.
Bass Rock is the world’s largest colony of Northern Gannets ( Morus Bassanus ) and usually is crammed with the species. This year however, an outbreak of bird flu has decimated the Northern Gannets and the usual look of snow cover from the white feathers of the gannets is very different from normal (see other images from the past on this portal) and may not look normal for several years to come, according to local wildlife officials.
