1932 - Ex Servicemen & Rioters stormed the Capitol in Washington in protest at not receiving a lump sum bonus on their return from overseas. This photo shows their camp on the city outskirts. On July 28, 1932. President Herbert Hoover ordered the Army to evict the “Bonus Army” veterans from the Capitol and ordered General MacArthur to tell his men to set fire to the protestors’ camps and forcibly expel them from Washington.
