An early contemporary portrait of François Rabelais (aka Francis /Franccis) circa 1483 ? -1553. He was a French Renaissance writer, physician, renaissance humanist, monk and Greek scholar who was also known for grotesque, bawdy jokes, satire and songs. Writer of 'Gargantua and Pantagruel' an odd tale of giants and was accused by some of heresy (though never convicted)
