The effigy of King Richard I (1157 – 1199) also known as Richard Cœur de Lion or Richard the Lionheart, in Fontevraud Abbey, Anjou, France. He was King of England from 6 July 1189 until his death on the 25 March 1199 after being shot with a crossbow by Bertrand de Gourdon, who said Richard had killed his father and two brothers, and that he had shot Richard in revenge.
