Kapitan Keling Mosque, Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia

Historic mosque built in the early 1800s by Caudeer Mohudeen, the head of the Indian Muslim community. The land was granted by the British governor to provide a permanent place of worship for the Muslim soldiers of the East India Company. The mosque was extensively renovated and extended in the early 20th century in British Moghul Revival style with the addition of Mughal domes and turrets, a large minaret, and a madrasah. It was renovated and enlarged again in 1930 and underwent a final refurbishment in 2003.
