Brain anatomy, 14th century artwork. The cranial vault (top of the skull, left) has been removed and two of the skull sutures (zig-zag lines) are shown. At right, the external brain membrane, the dura mater, is shown. The artwork is from Anathomia (1345), by the Italian anatomist Guido da Vigevano. The brain anatomy drawings in this manuscript are considered the first accurate human neuroanatomical drawings.
