The spermatic cord consists of the artery whichbrings blood; of the veins which return it; of the vas deferens, which carries the semen to the vesical* seminales at the neckof the bladder; of lymphatics, which are essential to thestructure of every part. This cord of vessels comes down fromthe belly, and passes by the ring of the abdominal muscles : itis about four inches in length, and is fixed into the upper andforepart of the body of the testicle. The body of the testicle is easily distinguished, and is theplace where the secretion is performed. It is strictly thebody of the gland, while the part above it is only the duct bywhich its fluid is discharged. The ancients called the testicle dydimi, gemini, twins; they, therefore, called that part which is laid on the back of thetesticle epididymis, as added to it. To the surgeon, it is essen-tially necessary to attend to the relation of the parts of the tes-ticle as felt through the scrotum. Eighth Plan of the Testicles.
