Mr. Rankin is a worthycitizen, a prosperous farmer, an affectionatehusband and father, and commands both therespect and friendship of those who knowhim. William Nixon Browntield (deceased),a prosperous farmer and a representativecitizen of Fayette county, was a son of Basiland vSarah (Collins) Brownfield. He wasborn Alarch 27, 1836, and received his edu-cation in the public schools of Fayette coun-ty. After leaving school he engaged in farm-ing which he pursued successfully until dutycalled him to his countrys service, to whichcall he responded, and in August, 1862, en-listed in Company F, 14th PennsylvaniaCavalry. He was in many sharpengagements, and suffered hardships that noone but a soldier knows how to endure. In1859 Mr. Brownfield married Miss ElizabethSackett, a daughter of Samuel and Priscilla(Caldwell) Sackett. Mr. Sackett, the fatherof Mrs. Brownfield, was a merchant, al-though he had farming interests. has two brothers and two sistersliving; Alexander and
