Lymphoedema. Swelling and \mossy changes\" seen on the leg of a 76 year old woman known as lymphoedema. This is caused by an abnormal accumulation of lymph in the tissues causing the eventual swelling of the limb. Lymphoedema occurs if lymphatic vessels are blocked, removed or damaged, resulting in the disruption of the normal drainage of lymph. This may be caused by diseases which block the lymph nodes such as cancer or parasitic worms. In some cases, women who have had a mastectomy develop lymphoedema in the arm. Usually it begins as this type of puffiness around one ankle which eventually spreads. There is no known cure."
