Developers wanted to build an urbanisation in the area to the north of this tower known as La Mota. The Ayuntamiento (town hall) would only grant permission if they built a water tower that blended in with the local area. The Water Tower made it but the urbanisation still hasn’t been built as of September 2011 and looks like it will never be started due to opposition in the area to yet another golf development in an area that is swamped with golf developments.
