Recruits of Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, perform the four-minute water tread during the Water Survival Basic Qualification at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Dec. 4. Fear and lack of confidence caused some to become stressed and panicked, which made them forget the techniques they were taught. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Delta Company is scheduled to graduate Feb. 2.
