The practical breeder emphasizes size. He seeks a beef animal with enough scale or frame to have a certain weight at a given age. There- fore, it must be conceded that if an animal has enough weight for its age, it must have sufficient size. It is an interesting fact, however, that in Great Britain in times past, beef animals have not as a rule been weighed when sold on the market, as in America, but have been measured instead. In this case size was the prime factor, measure- ments of length and girth of body enabling one to figure.
