A health and safety issue and a dangerous situation as a train passes over a level crossing where the gates have been left open to road traffic.
Cw 8139 769431 2W15 Crabtree Crossing gate open Train passes open crossing gates. Just to the west of Burscough Bridge station on the Wigan to Southport railway line a minor road crosses the railway. The road is Crabtree Lane and where it crosses the railway is a user operated level crossing. Here there are indicator lights to alert people that a train is coming and they should not attempt to cross the tracks either by foot or with a vehicle. If there is a green light then people can either cross by foot or open both of the crossing gates, drive across, stop and go back and close the gates. However on this Saturday afternoon someone has crossed the tracks with a road vehicle and forgotten or neglected to close one of the gates after they had crossed.
