Patrick's day did not equal that of previous years. Prom the reports of the downtown florists, where transient trade is usually heavy, a considerable number of the carnations were left. Charles Beyer has a splendid stock of tulips and Dutch hyacinths, as well as other blooming plants of all varie- ties. He reports trade good for the Lenten season. Ant. C. Zvolanek, the sweet pea spe- cialist of Lompoc, Cal., spent March 14 here, visiting the local trade, W. A. Kowe, chairman of the trus- tees of the Florists' Club, says they will have an important paper read be- fore the club at its meeting April 8, which should be of great interest to the members. At the establishments of George Waldbart and Ayres Floral Co., on Grand avenue, the displays of fancy blooming plants have been attracting a great deal of attention. Easter lilies with some of the local florists have been failures, while others have had excellent success. The stock of Sanders, Bourdet and .Tablonsky will be in splendid shape. From reports, lily plants from local growers will be scarce. Activity was resumed last week at the local seed houses. The fair weather kept all hands busy.
