Chromate solutions. Coloured solutions of potassium chromate (yellow, K2CrO4) and potassium dichromate (orange, K2Cr207) in conical flasks. Chromate ions are oxidising agents - able to strip electrons from some other chemicals to alter their chemical properties. This property leads to chromates finding uses in tanning, photographic processing, printing and in pigments.
