Mr. Scudders name ap-pears on the early records at theFloyd County courthouse in a realestate transaction, but there is noevidence that he ever lived at , a hamlet located onthe south side of the Coosa Riverat Fosters Bend, about 14 milesbelow Rome, was chosen by legis-lative act of Dec. 21, 1833* as thecounty seat, and a log cabin court-house was erected at which one ormore sessions of court, presidedover by Judge Jno. W. Hooper,were held, and in which quite alumiber of Indians appeared asprosecutors and defendants. The removal of the county seatfrom Livingston to Rome tookplace under authority of an actpassed Dec. 20, 1834,** and was. *Acts, 1833, ps. 321-2.**Acts, 1S34, ps. 250-1.
