Pilot Mountain's signature pinnacle rises above the Yadkin Valley and is part of the Sauratown Mountain range.
Big Pinnacle or "The Knob" of Pilot Mountain has served as a navigational landmark dating back to the native American Saura Indians, who called it Jomeokee or "Great Guide." It continued to serve as a landmark for early European settlers and became North Carolina's 14th state park in 1968.
