The weather for a number of days following New Year's day was dark, gloomy and cold. This caused a sharp drop in cut flower receipts, and as a re- sult prices took a brace and markets have cleaned up remarkably well. With clearer skies, such as we are enjoying this week, supplies are coming in more freely, but the January slump has yet to materialize. Boses have shortened up decidedly and are cleaned up with- out any special effort, the demand for short-stemmed stock being especially strong. Bright colors continue to sell well. Ophelia retains its great popu- larity. Carnations are selling better than a week ago. Prices ranged from $4 to $6 per hundred during last week. Violets have been rather short, but with more sun are coming in somewhat more freely. Bulbous flowers are more plentiful. Paper Whites are good and in big de- mand, but prices are lower than a year ago. Golden Spurs are as yet mostly French and hold their price well.
