The Phoenix Morris, are morris folk dancers made up of men and women seen performing at the Rickmansworth Festival DAVID MANSELL

The Phoenix Morris, are morris folk dancers made up of men and women, seen dancing in their colourful costumes, with bells on their legs, brightly coloured ribbons and flowers placed around their hats. They are performing their dances at Batchworth Lock on the Grand Union Canal in the Hertfordshire town of Rickmansworth as part of the annual Rickmansworth Festival held in May. The Rickmansworth Waterways Trust that organises the canal festival weekend event, has a canal centre at Batchworth Lock where it has a modern education and recreational facilities, attracting around 15,000 visitors each year. Large numbers of school children visit the canal centre as part of their National Curriculum Key Stages 1 and 2, learning about the history and culture of the people who built and worked on the canals.
