Dedicated on October 14, 2006, the memorial stands 270 feet high and overlooks Washington, DC. It can be seen from much of the area. It was designed by architect James Ingo Freed. Finding a location for the memorial was controversial; it now sits near the Navy Annex, on the southern edge of Arlington National Cemetery. Statues by sculptor Zenos Frudakis.
