Florists may become independent of imported lily bulbs for forcing for the Easter trade, in the opinion of special- ists of the bureau of plant industry of the Department of Agriculture. When it first became known that ex- periments in growing Easter lilies from seed were being carried on by the De- partment of Agriculture, few florists were prepared to believe that the un- dertaking any commercial value beyond the possil)ilities of pro- ducing new hybrids. The results of these experiments, which have now been carried on for four years, indicate, the department believe, tliut this country can develop an important industry.
