Hercules A galactic jets, composite image. Combined radio and optical image of the galactic jets (pink) emerging from the centre of the Hercules A galaxy. These jets, visible in the radio part of the spectrum, are powered by the supermassive black hole at the centre of the galaxy. Hercules A is billion light years from Earth, in the constellation of Hercules. Image data obtained with the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), with radio data obtained by the Very Large Array (VLA). Image published in 2012.
