A RAF Typhoon FGR4 displays at the Folkestone airshow. The aircraft comes from 6 Squadron RAF and is based at RAF Leuchars, Scotland. RAF Typhoons are the UK's air defence, with a number of aircraft permanently armed and ready to be scrambled at a minutes notice. In recent years that has included to intercept civilian airliners that have failed to correctly respond to air traffic controllers request to change routes or other instances which may cause concern over their situation, with terrorist activity being a possibility that has to be acted upon. Typhoons have created sonic booms over the UK when flying at supersonic speeds to intercept the airliners
