View SW as Roman road approaches NE gate of Tomen y Mur C1stAD auxiliary fort. Headquarters building (principia) stood to R of gate in front of the Norman castle motte built over the fort's NW gate. A section of castellated Roman walling has been reconstructed on footings of the NE rampart (R of ruined farmhouse). The pre-motte site features as Mur y Castell in the story of Math fab Mathonwy (Fourth Branch of The Mabinogi).
