Rodent ulcer (basal cell carcinoma) affecting the skin near the eye. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer, most frequently occurring on the head & face. The other basic skin cancer type, melanoma, (which arises from the proliferation of the melanin-producing cells of the skin) is less common but more dangerous. Basal cell skin cancers are related to long term, chronic exposure to the sun's ultraviolet radiation; agricultural and construction workers are most at risk. The cancer may be successfully treated if diagnosed and removed before secondary complications occur.
