A massive protest in Gdansk, Poland was held at the Solidarity Square in defense of Former Polish President, Lech Walesa after compromising documents were released last week by the Institute of National Remembrance in Warsaw. The location of the protest is symbolic, since in the 1980’s, it was the same location of the major strikes and protests led by the Solidarity movement. The protest was organized by the Committee for the Defense of Democracy in his defense after compromising documents were released last week by the Institute of National Remembrance in Warsaw. The documents were found found by the widow of General Czes?aw Kiszczak, a former chief of the military intelligence and the Minister of Internal Affairs (MSW). The documents allege that Mr. Walesa was a paid communist informer under the pseudonym “Bolek” for the infamous S?u?ba Bezpiecze?stwa (SB), the communist era police. Mr. Walesa has always maintained his innocence, and has repeatedly vehemently denied that he ever co-operated with the communist regime in Poland. Controversy continues over the documents as it is still unclear why such sensitive material was kept in the private home of deceased Polish general and why the General’s widow wanted to reveal them now.
