Ch irk Caslle stands about a mile from the village of Chirk, in theline of OfFas Dyke, and has been for generations the residence of theMyddelton family. It possesses every advantage in point of situation andsurrounding scenery. The view, from the eminence on which thiscastle stands, includes a sight of sixteen counties. The ground plan of the building is a square, the angles of which arestrengthened by four very strong bastions, each surmounted by a smallturret. The annexed plate exhibits the principal front, with the gate-way, which is through a massy strong tower, and leads to a quadrangu-lar court-yard, consisting of an area 160 feet long by 100 broad.
