Berlin,Grunewald,Old street lighting, lamp post with yellow light in front of apartment building in suburbia Grunewald, Berlin Borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf,named after the Grunewald hunting lodge of 1543, the oldest preserved castle in Berlin The neighbourhood was popular with the wealthy who built mansions in the area from 1880. It was incorporated into Greater Berlin in 1920. The Rot-Weiss Tennis Club, home of the WTA Tour German Open, has been located in the district since 1897. On June 24 1922, the Foreign Minister of Germany, Walther Rathenau, was assassinated by ultra-nationalist radicals in Koenigsallee. A memorial stone marks the scene of the crime. The area houses several Embassies and the man-made Teufelsberg Hill, previously the listening station of the US National Security Agency, is situated in the Grunewald forest
