The image shows the first American-built Caproni airplane, the Liberty Caproni bombing machine. It was constructed at the plant of the Standard Aircraft Corp. in Mineola, Long Island. Captain Hoseph D'Annunzio, son of the Italian poet and aviator Gabriel D'Annunzio, conducted the test flight with Giuliano Carvese as the pilot at the Hagelhurst Aviation Field.
