According to Greek legend and the epics credited to Homer—the Iliad and the Odyssey—the heroes pictured here all fought in the Great Trojan War, said to have been around 1184 They are, from left to right, Menelaus, Paris, Diomedes, Odysseus, Nestor, Achilles, and Agamemnon. All are Greek except for Paris, the Trojan prince who abducted Helen, wife of Menelaus, king of Sparta, and the result was the Trojan War.
