Bedford Tower at Dublin Castle. Bedford Tower is built on a base that was an original Norman gate to the castle and was added during the 18th century. The castle was commissioned by England's King John in the 13th century. The castle stood as a symbol of British rule for 700 years until it was handed over to the Irish Free State in 1922. Its current use is mostly ceremonial and is a highly popular tourist attraction.
