A view of Barr's Bay Park, Pitts Bay Road, Hamilton Bermuda. In 1835, the American Brig Enterprise was forced to land at Bermuda due to a storm. The ship was carrying 78 slaved bound for Charlston South Carolina. Slavery was illegal in Bermuda at this time and they were bought ashore at Barr's Bay and taken before the chief magistrate, where they were given the opportunity to stay in Bermuda and become free. All but one mother and her five children chose to remain on the Island
