A late 18th century illustration of Cyrtanthus obliquus, the Knysna lily, a species of plant in the amaryllis family native to coastal grassland from Natal to the Eastern Cape, South Africa. From "Plantarum rariorum horti caesari schoenbrunnensis", published in 1797, describing plants cultivated in the royal garden at the Palace of Schönbrunn near Vienna. Compiled by Nikolaus Joseph Freiherr von Jacquin (1727-1817), a Dutch scientist who studied medicine, chemistry and botany.
