Gytheio is the main port of Lakonia region, in southern Peloponnese, Greece. The ancient town, which stood more or less at the same place as the modern one, was the harbour of ancient Sparta. It is said that Paris and Helen of Sparta spent their first night here, before sailing to Troy.
