Rad-1874, from which the author has made the quotations Jn Bristol01*in reference to the Bristol closet, it is mentioned that successful working of these closets is due to thevery careful inspection instituted by the sanitaryauthority, and to the fact that the sanitary authoritylook after and cleanse the closets. The Inspectors ofNuisances at Bristol have under them men who attendto these closets, and who are armed with a speciesof two - pronged iron rake, used for the purpose ofclearing blocked ejects. The tumbler water-closet has been used in sometowns. Fig. 165 represents the plan, and Fig. 166 the Fig. section of tumbler closets as used in Leeds. Mr. J. Leeds tumbler Netten Radcliffe, in his report, of December, 1874, Kdclifc^* says that in Leeds, This form of closets is, in fact, now , as wasteful of water and difficult to keep in order.
