E W Marland, an oilman, philanthropist, U S congressman and 10th governor of Oklahoma, began building this mansion in 1925 and it was finished in 1928. Built of stone by John Duncan Forsyth, an Englishman, Marland admired the Davanzat Palace in Florence, Italy, which inspired this home. It contains 48,000 square feet, 4 floors an elevator, 12 bathrooms, three kitchens, a ballroom and 7 fireplaces. E W Marland lost control of his company, Marland Oil Company, and only lived in the mansion for a few years. This is the front door on the west side of the house.
