Serge Haroche (born 1944), French physicist and Nobel laureate, with quantum equations relating to Schrodinger's cat. Haroche specialises in laser and quantum physics. Since 2001, he has been a professor at the College de France, where he holds the Chair of Quantum Physics. His research includes work in the 1990s on quantum decoherence. He has also worked on laser spectroscopy, Rydberg atoms, and quantum logic. He shared the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics with David Wineland for their work on measurement and manipulation of quantum systems. Haroche was made a Commander of the Legion of Honour in 2013.
