A runner in the London Marathon has made life difficult for herself by wearing a very unwieldy costume.
There’s always been a group of elite runners competing in the London Marathon and in some years a world record is set. But the vast majority of the thirty thousand or so people taking part are amateurs who are raising money for charity. Some of them are very imaginative with their design of costume, increasing their chances of attracting donations but, by the same token, reducing the likelihood of their actually finishing the race. It’s amazing what people do achieve, though. In 2002, a man wearing a deep-sea diving suit actually made it all the way round.
