The Dormition (Uspensky) cathedral was the main cathedral of Russia were coronation ceremonies took place. The most importaint Russian icon 'The Virgin of Vladimir' based in this cathedral before the Bolshevik revolution. The Annunciation (Blagoveschensky) cathedral was the home church of the czar's family. It was built by Pskov masters.
