Contractors installing prism targets in underground station to detect structural movement caused by nearby construction works.

Whilst the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (High Speed 1) was being constructed, a huge programme of structural monitoring was established throughout the maze of the Victorian station buildings and tunnels at Kings Cross and St Pancras in London. This system was designed to raise the alarm if it detected tiny ground movements and thereby prevent the possibility of damage to the important structures above and below ground. The £ billion Channel Tunnel Rail Link was built between 1998-2007 and partly funded by the European Union, it forms a section of the Trans European Rail Network. It is basically a French-style high-speed rail line linking London with the Channel Tunnel, the Eurostar trains were developed on proven technology from the French TGV high-speed system. Stations on the CTRL are the existing Ashford International and new stations at Ebbsfleet and Stratford. The line ends at the rebuilt St. Pancras.
