Tying Rakhi on the hand of the brother as part of the Hindu festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters.
Rakhi is a Hindu festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters. The idea is that on this day, the sister ties a decorated thread on the hand of her brother (or even somebody who is not a blood brother but whom she considers as her brother). In return, the expectation is that the brother protects her when she needs any sort of help. This is a big festival in India, to the extent that most organizations give this day off as a holiday. A possible origin to this festival is where a Hindu princess requested help from a Muslim king and accepted him as her brother.
