One of the more unusual sights in Kingston is the sculpture of the tumbling red telephone boxes created by the Scottish installation artist David Mach. The work of art was commissioned by Kingston Council in 1988 and has divided public opinion ever since. Called Out of Order, shopkeepers complained it was just that when it was erected because they said it was bad for business. The artist, however, says most people like the piece.
