SEEKING GLASS SAND Investigations into British supplies ofsands suitable for glass making havebeen rendered necessary by the almostcomplete cessation since 1916 of importsfrom France, Holland, and Belgium ofthose sands which many British manu-facturers employed as materials fordassware of both fine and medium qual-ities. The sand imported from Belgiumin 1913 amounted to more than 230,000ions, but barely 25,000 tons were re-ceived in 1915.
