Desert dust identification. Researcher analysing samples of dust collected from the surface of a car in Beijing, China, to determine where it came from. This is being done as part of research to help prevent the deserts surrounding Beijing from encroaching on the capital. The samples from Beijing were found to be almost identical to samples collected from a salt lake in Changuoer, Inner Mongolia, showing that the dust originated here. Photographed in Beijing, China.
