Historic Dunnideer Castle near Insch

The ruined tower house of Dunnideer Castle was built around 1260 on top of a previously occupied vitrified hillfort. A short steep walk leads to the castle and one has great 360 views from the top including Tap O'Noth, another site of a vitrified hillfort and seen on the horizon in this photo, plus Bennachie and the fields of Aberdeenshire. The walking track also leads down to a recumbent stone circle, a type that is characteristic of Aberdeenshire
