Templeshannon windmill, Vinegar Hill, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, Ireland. The command centre for the Irish rebel camp during the 1798 Rebellion
Digital painting from my original image created using Benson brushes in DAP & additional PP in Photoshop. The Battle of Vinegar Hill was an engagement during the Irish Rebellion of 1798 on 21 June 1798 when over 15,000 British soldiers launched an attack on Vinegar Hill outside Enniscorthy, County Wexford, the largest camp and headquarters of the Wexford United Irish rebels. It marked a turning point in the Irish Rebellion of 1798, as it was the last attempt by the rebels to hold and defend ground against the British military. The battle was actually fought in two locations: on Vinegar Hill itself and in the streets of nearby Enniscorthy. Source = Vinegar Hill Windmill is a small-scale circular single-bay, single-stage windmill, dating from between 1600 and 1798. It sits on a piece of elevated ground, and is of a brick and dressed stone construction. The windmill was the command centre for the Irish rebel camp during the 1798 Rebellion on Vinegar Hill, and they flew their banner from the windmill.
